20th Anniversary Of 9/11

By Capt. Grant Broggi, USMC

I was at a September 11th memorial event yesterday here in Orange County and it made me think of the impact that 9/11/2001 had on myself, and for all Americans. For me, it was a turning point. It was the day that made me ultimately serve in the United States Marine Corps.

I signed up exactly 10 years after 9/11. In my nearly 10 years of service the entire focus of our missions was a result of what happened on that day. I learned that most of the Marines that I served with had joined because America was at war.

This ultimately brought me to strength training, preparing Marines to be fit and durable for combat.

It’s been 20 years, and the world has changed a lot. But there are still great Americans putting on the uniform everyday to ensure that such a tragedy never happens again. As a civilian now, I’m happy that we still play a roll in prepping them for combat.

Semper Fidelis.
