WHO WE ARE

The Strength Co. exists to help people become stronger in a safe, structured, and sustainable way. We are the only Starting Strength affiliate gym in the state of California, offering professional barbell coaching built on proven programming and proper technique. Our team works with beginners and experienced lifters alike to remove guesswork, prevent injuries, and create consistent, long-term progress.

We believe strength is the foundation for performance, health, and confidence, no matter your age or experience level. That’s why we focus on coaching, structured training, and measurable results instead of trends or random workouts.

Everything in the gym is selected to support safe, effective strength training from first-time lifters to competitive athletes. No crowds. No distractions. Just a place to train seriously.

HOW WE’RE DIFFERENT

We’re a little different from a typical commercial gym and that’s intentional. You won’t find rows of treadmills, dumbbells, or group cardio classes here. We also don’t have locker rooms or showers. Instead, we’ve built the gym around barbells, racks, platforms, and coaching, so you can focus on learning the lifts and getting stronger without distractions.

MEET GRANT BROGGI, OWNER & HEAD COACH

Grant founded The Strength Co. with one goal: to create a gym built around real coaching and real results. As a certified Starting Strength Coach and former Marine Officer, Grant brings a disciplined, detail-oriented approach to training. He has coached hundreds of lifters, from complete beginners to advanced athletes, and is known for his ability to simplify complex movements and help people train with confidence.

In addition to coaching, Grant is also the founder of The Strength Co. equipment line, a brand known for producing high-quality cast-iron plates and barbell training equipment used by lifters around the world. His hands-on experience as both a coach and equipment designer influences how the gym is built, what tools are used, and how members train every day.

Grant remains hands-on at the gym, working directly with members, mentoring coaches, and ensuring that every lifter receives the same high standard of instruction and programming that The Strength Co. was built on.

HISTORY OF THE STRENGTH CO. GYM

The Strength Co. is a Starting Strength Affiliate Gym in Costa Mesa, California. It originally opened in 2014 out of Grant’s garage. He opened this location in 2017 and it became the prototype for all Starting Strength Gyms.

Grant originally started the gym with York Deep Dish plates and Rogue B&R barbells. He later found out the 45 lb plates he bought were an inch shorter than they were supposed to be. That was the start of his hatred for imported Chinese products with zero quality control and what ultimately pushed him into equipment manufacturing. In 2020, he launched his own olympic plate line, and the gym now runs Iron and Bumper Plates from The Strength Co.

In its ninth year, The Strength Co. has helped thousands of normal people get strong using the basic barbell lifts. We want each member and visitor to leave feeling that the gym doesn’t have to be scary or intimidating. We believe the gym is for everyone!
